MILLION FOR MENDEZ Postcard Blizzard!

Teach students how to make history today!  If we want Mendez v. Westminster taught in California's schools, we need to take action.  We need letters of support NOW to ensure this proposal passes.  Have students write postcard or letters (with Mendez stamps ; - ) ) with the words TEACH MENDEZ or telling us why you think Mendez v. Westminster should be taught in our schools.  We'll share those letters with with our communities as we move to get Mendez into California's curriculum.  Send the letters to: MILLION FOR MENDEZ, Mendez America Project, 3419 E. Chapman Ave. #253, Orange, CA 92809-3812.  We'll post updates on this website!

Mendez v. Westminster 1947: A Stunning Civil Rights Victory

Sylvia Mendez was eight-years-old when she and her brothers were turned away from the white school in Westminster, Orange County.  Her parents, Mexican American father Gonzalo and Puerto Rican mother Felicitas, led a lawsuit that had the impact of making California the first state to end school segregation - seven years before Brown v. Board of Education.
